The Green Key certification process encourages establishments to address key areas of sustainability, including energy and water efficiency, waste management, responsible procurement, sustainable management, staff engagement, guest awareness and social responsibility. Through these efforts, participating establishments can reduce their environmental impact while improving operational efficiency and creating more responsible experiences for their guests.

Our role goes beyond certification. ISSD is committed to building knowledge and capacity within Armenia’s tourism sector and fostering a community of businesses that see sustainability not simply as a requirement, but as an opportunity for innovation, resilience and long-term growth. Green Key also promotes a process of continuous improvement, encouraging tourism establishments to strengthen their sustainability performance over time and embed responsible practices into their everyday operations.

Since becoming the Green Key National Operator for Armenia, ISSD has been working to raise awareness of sustainable tourism, support hospitality businesses in adopting international sustainability standards and create new opportunities for Armenia’s tourism sector to become more environmentally responsible and competitive. Our ambition is to make sustainability an integral part of Armenia’s tourism development – supporting businesses in becoming more resource-efficient and responsible while contributing to the protection of Armenia’s natural environment and the growth of responsible tourism.
