Auditor Costs
The participating establishments are required to pay the applicable Certification Body fee and auditor costs. For the period 1 October 2026 – 31 December 2027, the annual Certification Body fee is €130.90 for hotels, hostels, campsites, holiday parks and conference centres, and €75.00 for small accommodations, restaurants and attractions. The Certification Body fee is charged annually and is paid directly to the Certification Body in connection with the certification decision and subsequent surveillance activities.
Auditor costs are charged every second year and depend on the type and size of the establishment, the required audit duration and the applicable hourly rate of the assigned auditor. The total audit duration includes preparation, the on-site audit, reporting and follow-up related to any identified non-conformities.
The minimum audit duration is determined as follows:
Small accommodations (1–20 bedrooms), restaurants, museums and visitor/interpretation centres, and establishments with 1–5 full-time employees.
Conference centres, theme parks, small hotels (21–50 bedrooms), small hostels (fewer than 100 beds), small campsites (fewer than 50 pitches), small holiday parks (fewer than 100 bed places), and establishments with 6–25 full-time employees.
Medium hotels (51–250 bedrooms), large hostels (100+ beds), medium campsites (51–150 pitches), medium holiday parks (101–300 bed places), and establishments with 26–100 full-time employees.
Large hotels (251–450 bedrooms), large campsites (more than 150 pitches), medium/large holiday parks (more than 300 bed places), and establishments with 101–250 full-time employees.
Very large hotels (more than 450 rooms) and establishments with more than 250 full-time employees.
In addition to the audit fee, reasonable travel expenses may apply, including economy-class transportation, visa costs where applicable, and accommodation if required. Where total travel costs are expected to exceed €300, prior approval from the establishment will be requested. Meal expenses and other additional costs are not included in this €300 threshold.
Following certification, establishments may also purchase optional Green Key materials, such as the official Green Key plaque, flag and other display materials.
